About the Maryland Minority Business Counts Initiative

The Maryland Minority Business Counts Initiative is designed to identify, promote, support, and encourage current and future Black business owners in our state. Our primary goal is to assist these entrepreneurs in pursuing and securing contracts from the significant annual expenditure of $18.9 billion from Maryland’s budget.

It is in support of Governor Moore’s vision for creating “Work, Wages, and Wealth” through leveraging business opportunities among groups of Black entrepreneurs that have long been impacted by systemic racism that we have pledged to support his administration through this collaboration.

Wes Moore

Governor of Maryland

On this past February 16th, Maryland Governor Wes Moore issued an historic Executive Order that actualizes his storied commitment to equity, inclusion, and economic justice as tools for closing our state’s racial wealth gap. Executive Order #01.01.2023.03  calls for immediate action and accountability by all state government agencies to forge beyond their traditional “good faith efforts” in reaching Maryland’s 29% goal for procuring goods from businesses owned by African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, women or disabled entrepreneurs.

It is in support of Governor Moore’s vision for creating “Work, Wages, and Wealth” through leveraging business opportunities among groups of Black entrepreneurs that have long been impacted by systemic racism that we have pledged to support his administration through this collaboration.

Our

Mission

The “Maryland Minority Business Counts” initiative seeks to identify, promote, support, and encourage current and future Black business owners in our state as they endeavor to pursue and secure contracts from the estimated 18.9 billion expended from Maryland’s annual budget. We are specifically promoting this program for Black businesses because when goals are aimed at all races in the “minority” category, African Americans often finish last. With your participation, we seek to ensure that we get our fair share.
